It seems like most of my time has been spent in the kitchen these last couple of weeks. The kitchen and the dentist, for no real reason just lots of check-ups and re-fits for braces. I prefer my time in the kitchen a whole lot more.
I have discovered America's Test Kitchen on Amazon Prime and have been savoring each episode and have subscribed to Cooks Illustrated. I have already cooked their chicken fricasse. It was just so darn good.
Other recipes this week have included these raspberry muffins made with the left over almond pulp from this almond milk, these chicken empanadas (made with black bean and corn filling instead), these dreamy cream scones but I subsituted half the cream for milk (for tea with friends), this lemon loaf cake (for a friend who is under the weather) and, now my Kitchen Aid mixer is back from the repair shop, the long awaited marshamallows for smores.
As I walk to the kicthen table in the evening and everyone is sitting down, the candles are lit, glasses of water poured, Andy and the kids are chatting away, there is a good meal on the table and the is dog scrabbling around underneath trying to join in, I try to remember this very moment. What it feels like right now to parent these children, be a wife to this man, to inhabit this space in this time. And I am flooded with love.
