Forty. Age has never bothered me, I often get mine wrong but now I have a good solid number to remember.
We had such a weekend of celebrations! My, oh my I was so spoiled by Andy. I knew he had something special up his sleeve but it was truly spectacular. He worked really hard to make this weekend wonderful and I am so amazed by everything he did.
Before the weekend, we went away for the night to Canada and stayed over night in Niagara-on-the-Lake. That place is just so darn cute. Lots of little shops and restaurants, a sweet park and charming hotels. We had a delicious dinner at the Charles Inn and a leisurely morning strolling through the town. We didn't take the kids. It was our first night away together in eight years.
Back at home on Sunday, I got to have a cup of tea in bed and when the kids couldn't stand the excitement any more I was led to the kitchen table which was loaded with presents. Andy went a little crazy with all the great stuff he got me but the biggest surprise was a painting by Abbey Ryan. That picture of me looking overwhelmed...that was just before I cried.
We invited friends for afternoon tea and had an Easter Egg hunt for about a dozen children. Before the party my kids and I hung little paper baskets filled with eggs in the trees for the wee ones and my daughter skipped through the garden flinging eggs around saying she felt just like the Easter bunny.
About fifty people came and we drank lots of St-Germain cocktails, chatted endlessly and laughed a lot. We were all so wrapped up in the party we forgot about the birthday cake in the fridge. The kids and I have been working our way through it ever since.
It was all so big and eventful. My son's birthday, followed by mine and Easter day. It was fun and good but a little overwhelming for one who never even wants to go out on her birthday. I'm so glad we did it all though, it felt right to have a party, to celebrate all the changes in our lives. This year Andy and I will also celebrate our tenth wedding anniversary and we'll have been living in here for ten years too. We've done a whole lot in these ten years. Thirty seems so long ago and forty feels...well, it feels wonderful.
